When Should I Have a Fertility Evaluation?

You should contact our practice to request a consultation if:

You've Been Trying to Get Pregnant

You should get your fertility tested if you and your partner have been trying to get pregnant for over a year with no luck. We can test both your and your partner's fertility to recommend treatment and help you start your family.

You Know You Want Kids One Day

Even if you're not ready now but know you want kids in your future, you should come in for a fertility evaluation. Early detection of fertility issues can better your chance of pregnancy down the line.

You Are Over 35

If you are over 35 and know you want kids one day, or you and your partner have been unable to conceive after six months of trying, you should get your fertility tested.

You Are at Risk for Infertility

Several medical, environmental, and lifestyle factors can put you and your partner at a greater risk of infertility. Checking your fertility can determine if these factors have affected your ability to conceive.

Am I at Risk for Infertility? Contact Our Reproductive Practice to Find Out

Knowing the risk factors for infertility can help you better prepare for your future family. Early detection of potential problems can be crucial in increasing your chance of pregnancy. Contact our Houston practice to request your fertility evaluation.

Age

Women only have a set number of eggs at birth. That number rapidly decreases as they age into their 30s. By 45, the chance of pregnancy is 15%. Men become less fertile around 40.

Lifestyle

People who smoke or drink alcohol regularly are less likely to get pregnant. Smoking can increase your chance of miscarriage and cause erectile dysfunction (ED). Both smoking and drinking can decrease sperm count.

Weight

Being significantly over- or underweight can affect a woman's cycle and cause them to skip ovulation. Obese men can have a decrease in sperm quality and suffer from ED.

Environment

You can decrease your chances of pregnancy if you are around toxic chemicals frequently, like pesticides or pollution. Both sperm and eggs can be affected by radiation and chemotherapy cancer treatments.

Health

Several medical conditions for both men and women can affect your fertility. We will review your health histories to determine if a medical condition like diabetes could be affecting your fertility. We will also test for reproductive conditions like endometriosis so we can start treatment right away.

Ovulation Testing

Blood work can test for hormones to determine if you are ovulating. Knowing your time of ovulation can help you determine when you will have the highest chance of pregnancy.

Ultrasound

X-Rays

X-rays can identify any tubal issues that may later stand in your way of pregnancy.

Ovarian Reserve Testing

Ovarian reserve testing helps us determine if you are close to menopause and how aggressive your treatment needs to be.

Semen Analysis

A semen analysis tests the amount, motility, concentration, and morphology of your semen to detect any abnormalities that could be contributing to your infertility.
