More Than a Procedure: My Holistic Approach to Infertility Treatment
Learn why I lead with whole-body fertility care, nutrition, wellness, and acupuncture, and only turn to IUI or IVF when it's truly time.

When a new patient sits down across from me, I can often tell what they are bracing for. Many of them have spent months, sometimes years, trying to conceive, and they walk in expecting me to reach straight for the most aggressive tool I have. They are surprised when the first thing I want to talk about is not egg retrieval or embryo transfer. It is sleep, stress, nutrition, and how their whole body is doing.
That is not because I am hesitant to use advanced reproductive technology. I use it every day, and it changes lives. It is because fertility reflects your overall health, and for a meaningful number of couples, the path to a pregnancy starts with supporting the body rather than bypassing it.
My Philosophy
Why I Don’t Lead With the Most Invasive Option
There is an assumption that walking into a fertility center means committing to IVF. I understand where it comes from, but it is not how I practice. Jumping straight to the most intensive treatment ignores a simple truth: the body you bring to a fertility treatment is the same body that has to carry a pregnancy. When we optimize your health first, we are not only improving your odds of conceiving. We are laying the groundwork for a healthier pregnancy and a healthier baby.
I don’t see IVF as the starting line. I see it as one powerful step on a ladder, and my job is to make sure we’re standing on the right rung for you, not the highest one available.
Less invasive care is also, for most people, less expensive and less emotionally exhausting. If a few months of focused, whole-person support gets a couple to a healthy pregnancy without the cost and intensity of a full IVF cycle, that is a win I want for every patient I can offer it to.
The Foundation
Starting With the Whole Person
Not every fertility treatment involves a procedure. Some of the most meaningful gains I see come from our holistic fertility treatments, the supportive, whole-body care we offer alongside (and often before) anything more clinical. For many couples, this is where the journey genuinely begins, and for some, it is as far as they need to go.
Nutritional Education
A balanced diet and regular movement optimize both the male and female reproductive systems. We help you improve overall health and reach a weight that supports conception, changes that can restore ovulation and improve sperm quality on their own.
Wellness Counseling
Infertility is one of the most stressful experiences a person can go through, and that stress feeds back on the body. Counseling gives you tools to protect your mental health and your relationship while you navigate treatment, support that matters at every step.
Acupuncture
Many patients use acupuncture to reduce stress and support blood flow to the reproductive organs, both on its own and alongside a treatment cycle. I’m always honest that the evidence is still evolving, but for the right patient it can be a calming, low-risk complement to care.
None of this is a substitute for a real medical evaluation. It works alongside one. What these tools have in common is that they treat you as a whole person, not just a set of lab values, and they address the underlying conditions that so often stand between a couple and a pregnancy.
Where We Start
The Everyday Foundations I Focus On First

Before we talk about anything more clinical, these are the areas I want to work on with you. Small, steady changes here often make the biggest difference, and they benefit both partners.
Your First Steps
Foundations for a Fertile Body
-
Nourishing, balanced nutritionWhole foods that support hormone balance and healthy egg and sperm quality.
-
A healthy, sustainable weightReaching a healthy range can restore regular ovulation all on its own.
-
Movement most days of the weekRegular, moderate activity improves circulation and lowers stress.
-
Better sleep and lower stressConsistent rest and real stress tools help regulate the hormones that drive fertility.
-
Less alcohol, tobacco, and excess caffeineCutting back gives both partners a measurable fertility boost.
A Thoughtful Path
How I Decide When to Do More
Leading with holistic care does not mean delaying effective treatment. It means we move up the ladder deliberately, only when the evidence says it is time. It also means being honest about who benefits from a slower start and who does not.
A holistic-first start fits well when
We Have Room to Build
- ›You are generally healthy with time on your side
- ›Your cycles or lifestyle have clear room to improve
- ›Your evaluation hasn’t found a major structural barrier
- ›You’d prefer to begin with the least invasive option
I may suggest moving ahead sooner when
Time Is a Real Factor
- ›Age or ovarian reserve makes timing important
- ›Testing reveals a blockage or significant male factor
- ›You have already been trying for a long time
- ›A specific diagnosis calls for targeted treatment now
Both paths are legitimate, and I will always tell you honestly which one I think fits your situation. For most patients, here is the general path we follow together.

First
Evaluate and build the foundation
We start with a thorough fertility evaluation and put the holistic pieces (nutrition, stress, lifestyle) in place. For many couples, this is where things change.
If needed
Gentle, targeted support
If a specific issue is standing in the way, such as irregular ovulation, we address it with the least invasive treatment that fits, like medication to support a natural cycle.
Every couple moves through this at their own pace. Some conceive at the first rung. Others need the full strength of assisted reproduction. Both are successes in my book, because both got there the right way, with a plan built around them.
Here is what I want every patient to hear: choosing IVF or IUI never means giving up the holistic side. The nutrition guidance, the wellness counseling, the acupuncture. If you want it, we keep all of it running right alongside your treatment cycle.
In fact, that is often when whole-person care matters most. A well-nourished, well-rested, well-supported body tends to respond better to ovarian stimulation, to implantation, and to pregnancy itself. So even if we do proceed to IVF, you and I can keep working on diet, stress, and lifestyle together the entire way. It is never an either-or. The two work best hand in hand.
The Bigger Picture
The Goal Is Your Health, Not Just a Positive Test
A positive pregnancy test is the moment everyone is working toward, but it is not the finish line. My goal is a healthy you, a healthy pregnancy, and a healthy baby. That is exactly why I start with the whole person. When we take care of the foundation first, everything we might do afterward works better.
If you have been putting off a visit because you were afraid the answer would be “straight to IVF,” I hope this reassures you. There is very often a gentler place to begin, and I would be glad to help you find it.
