In vitro fertilization is a process where we can take the eggs out of the
body, in a very simple office procedure, no pain, get the eggs out. We can
fertilize in the lab, grow the embryos, and then place a few embryos or one
back into the uterus, to achieve a very high pregnancy rate. In vitro
fertilization is the most advanced infertility treatment that we have. It
is a wonderful treatment option with high success rates for many couples.
Not everyone needs in vitro fertilization, and it is a process though, that
we can achieve high success rates for those who need it. Women who are
candidates for in vitro fertilization are women with blocked tubes, women
whose husbands have very low sperm counts, also women who have failed to
become pregnant with other types of therapy, less aggressive therapies.
Also today we find many women are looking at in vitro fertilization,
because they are near the end of their reproductive years, are nearing age
40 or are in their 40's, and so they want the most aggressive therapy to
try to hurry up and get pregnant while they still have the opportunity.
