Improvements in assisted reproductive technology have increased the success of fertility treatments...

The first step in treating infertility is testing...

Evaluating Fertility  in Women

Hormone Testing

The doctor will perform a blood test to measure ovulatory, pituitary, and other hormone levels that can affect reproduction and determine whether you're ovulating or not.

Hysterosalpingography

This procedure evaluates the condition of your fallopian tubes and uterus. Dr. Kristiansen will check for blockages, uterine fibroids, or other problems.

Laparoscopy

On some occasions, we will perform this minimally invasive surgery to examine your fallopian tubes, ovaries, and uterus. The doctor will make a small incision and insert a thin viewing device beneath the navel. A laparoscopy can identify endometriosis, scarring, and other irregularities in the reproductive system.

Begin Improving Your Chances of Pregnancy

The road to pregnancy can be challenging for many people. We can help you increase your chances of success and achieve your dream family. Schedule your consultation at Houston Fertility Center today to learn more about the types of treatment we offer for patients struggling with infertility.

Evaluating Fertility  in Men

Semen Analysis

You will provide a semen sample for the doctor to analyze. We will test your sperm count as well as the shape and mobility of the cells.

Hormone Testing

We may ask for a blood test to determine your testosterone levels and other male hormones.

Testicular Biopsy

In rare circumstances, we may want to perform a testicular biopsy to identify abnormalities that could contribute to infertility.

Depending on the results of your fertility tests, we can recommend several forms of treatment...

Our Services

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine insemination is a fertility treatment that involves transferring semen directly into the uterus with assisted reproductive technology. During an IUI treatment, the sperm are washed, placed into a sterile medium, and injected directly into the uterus. The high placement in the female reproductive tract increases the chance of successful fertilization. Intrauterine insemination is less invasive than IVF and is usually one of the first treatments we recommend to treat infertility. IUI may not be successful in cases of severe male infertility or blocked fallopian tubes.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

In vitro fertilization involves fertilizing mature eggs in a controlled environment and then transferring the embryo back into the uterus. IVF is a revolutionary treatment used to overcome a wide range of fertility issues including ovulation disorders, damaged fallopian tubes, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and poor sperm mobility. We typically recommend less invasive methods such as fertility drugs or IUI before moving on to IVF. An entire cycle of IVF takes about three weeks from egg retrieval to a blood test determining pregnancy.

INVOcell

The main difference between INVOcell and IVF is that fertilization occurs within the body rather than a lab. Hormones stimulate the body to ovulate and release mature eggs which the doctor then retrieves. The egg and sperm cells are placed together in the tiny INVOcell device, which stays securely in the vaginal cavity for three to five days allowing for incubation. The fact that fertilization occurs within the body is attractive to many patients with certain religious beliefs or those who are uncomfortable with the idea of a lab controlling the early stages of embryonic development.

Egg Donors

Eggs are donated for patients who have lost their ovaries, have premature ovarian failure, or advanced maternal age. These donors are screened for genetic, emotional, and physical health abnormalities, smoking, drug use, and sexually transmitted diseases. We record the characteristics of our donors so patients can select those who align with their own physical traits if they desire.

Surrogacy

Women who can produce healthy eggs but are unable to use their uterus may consider a gestational surrogate carrier. A donated egg may also be used with a gestational surrogate in the event a woman can’t produce her own eggs. In either case, you may use your partner's sperm or donated sperm to fertilize the egg. Using IVF, we transfer the embryo into the surrogate's uterus to carry until term, however, there is no biological tie between the child and the surrogate.
